Mahindra Thar Roxx technical details leaked ahead of launch

Details of the Thar Roxx's engine, suspension, and off-road hardware have leaked online just days ahead of its launch.

Mahindra is gearing up to launch the Thar Roxx on August 15. Now, some interesting technical details of the upcoming Thar 5-door have been revealed just days ahead of its debut.

According to a media report, the Thar Roxx will be based on an updated platform, which is said to be 40 kg lighter than its predecessor. The body shell, including the metal hard top, is said to be constructed from high-strength steel. The SUV is said to have an approach angle of 41.3 degrees, a ramp-over angle of 23.6 degrees and a departure angle of 36.1 degrees, while its water-wading depth will be 650 mm.

Under the skin, the Thar Roxx will feature an independent front suspension with double wishbones and a multi-link rear with Watts linkage. It will also get ‘Frequency Dependent Damping’, which is said to improve the overall ride quality.

As far as its off-road capabilities are concerned, the Thar Roxx will be equipped with the 4Xplor system, featuring an electronic brake locking differential and an electronic locking differential. It will have three terrain modes: Snow, Sand and Mud, with 2H, 4H and 4L modes similar to the 3-door version.

The Thar Roxx also gets Crawl Smart Assist (CSA). This feature will be available on the automatic version. The system allows the driver to set a speed between 2.5 km/h to 30 km/h, and the vehicle will maintain the speed without any input from the driver.

Mahindra will also introduce the ‘Intelli Turn Assist’ feature, which locks the rear inner wheel to aid steering at low speeds. The driver can activate this feature at speeds under 15 km/h for 15 seconds, with the electronic locking differential disengaged.

Regarding its engines, the Thar Roxx is likely to be offered a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that powers the Scorpio-N and XUV700. Reports suggest that the SUV will also get a 2.2-litre mHawk Gen2 diesel engine. Both petrol and diesel engines will come in two states of tune, while transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
