2.5 years & 26,000 km with my VW Taigun 1.0L AT: Ownership experience

Bumper to bumper traffic on one instance made the mileage drop around 4.8km/l

BHPian throttleflick recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I've completed 25,650 on the odo. Been two years and 6 months, and the ownership has been hassle-free till date. I did a 6.4k km road trip from Pune to Manali (stayed at Udaipur, Amritsar, Dharamshala, Manali, Jaipur) in the 6th month after buying the car. The dimensions, the 1.0 TSi and 6-speed TC are perfect for my use case.

The rest of the kms on the Odo have been a result of frequent Mumbai - Pune expressway runs. I've used tank fulls of Shell and XP-95 exclusively when in Mumbai and Pune and also during my Manali road trip.

I now daily the car from one of the northern suburbs of Mumbai to near the domestic airport, where my workplace is. Bumper-to-bumper traffic in one instance made the mileage drop around 4.8km/l, while in regular moving traffic on the western express highway, the mileage hovers around 8 - 10km/l. AC is on 24 most of the time. Expressway runs towards Pune and gets me a mileage of 16 km/l, while coming back from Pune sees around 18km/l.

The car has been serviced at BU Bhandari, Wakad - Pune. The service has been a hit mostly, but the misses have been addressed promptly. Never have I had to leave the car at the service center except for the 15k km service.

This year, I also suffered a tyre puncture while I was on my way to Pune, it was a concerning drive given I'd been babying the tyres almost every time. Didn't fiddle with the nail pierced in the tyre and kept a steady speed of 75km/hr till I reached the IOCL COCO bunk at Khalapur. The tyre service there is open 24/7 and the puncture was promptly fixed by the attendant.

The car stood in an open parking lot while I was staying in Pune. I've observed shallow cracks on the tyre and another puncture incident on the same tyre two days ago has me thinking if I should replace all the 4 tyres with Continental UC6 or Yokohama Earth 1.

205/55 r17 aren't available from both the manufacturers and hence, I might have to source 215/55 r17s. Does anybody here have any experience with either of the two tyre brands? I don't mind sticking with the stock MRFs or even bother replacing but, but the infamous potholes in Mumbai and the lack of visibility in rain with potholes overflowing has kinda of put a dent in my original plan of replacing the tyres around 40k on the odo. Also, the MRFs have the tendency to let out an audible howl while travelling at around 70km/hr.
