Future BMW EVs might get in-wheel electric motors

BMW is already said to be preparing a fleet of production cars with in-wheel e-motor technology

According to reports, BMW has partnered with Munich-based tech brand, DeepDrive, to develop a new type of in-wheel electric motor technology.

The new in-wheel electric motor is said to come with dual rotors, which can improve the efficiency and range of BMW's electric cars. It basically works like when two motors are combined into one, allowing both internal and external rotors to move simultaneously - unlike conventional motors, which can move only one. The motor has also been made compact enough to attach in-wheel on all four corners, improving both performance and efficiency.

BMW is already said to be preparing a fleet of production cars with in-wheel e-motor technology for extensive testing.
