2.5 years with my Volkswagen Taigun : An interesting update

I must say, this being just my second car and the first Turbo petrol, I am indeed surprised at the level sensitivity this car's mileage has towards driving conditions and the range of variance.

BHPian asmr recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

I have an (interesting?) update.

My Taigun was sent to the ASS for a thorough checkup earlier this month. Everything came up as just fine. The issue with driver side auto up/down seems to have been resolved now through a software update, after almost 2.5years. Brake pads were cleaned and all filters, suspension etc. were checked.

But the mileage still was in the 7s and 8s overall. Just for reference, the distance of the office commute was approximately 7Kms one way, with return being on a different route which had 30% overlap, but both through a mix of bad roads and extremely bad traffic & outrageous traffic behaviors in interior localities.

A couple of weeks after this service, and about a week back, I moved my home to a different locality that's 15km away from my workplace. This commute is on a very busy arterial road for the most part - but no wrong side drivers, no speed breakers or congested streets, much better road quality and with traffic congestion at a few places.

The good thing about multi-lane, better roads is that vehicles keep moving along for the most part (except at signals and the now frequent U turn points kept to avoid right turns signals). The major, most unpredictable congestion always happens nearer to my workplace, primarily due to metro work. If I get caught in that, mileage tumbles down to the 7s as usual.

So, in the last few days, my commute towards office now shows anywhere between 8.5Kmpl to 10.5 or 11Kmpl on the MID depending on the traffic congestion. On my return journey, since it is later at night, I see 14.5 to 16Kmpl on the MID.

I must say, this being just my second car and the first Turbo petrol, I am indeed surprised at the level sensitivity this car's mileage has towards driving conditions and the range of variance.

I am due for a fuel refill in another few days but I think the last 4 months restated the obvious for me in no uncertain terms. Less braking, possibility of higher average speeds, which goes up significantly with open stretches of road, calm(er) driving, better traffic behaviors, good quality petrol = higher mileage.

That seems to be the bottom-line.
