Suzuki aims to reduce Alto's weight by 15% over the next decade

If the vehicle weighs 200 kg less, it requires fewer materials, about 20% less energy for production, and 6% less energy for driving.

Japan’s Suzuki Motor Corporation chalked out its technology strategy for the next 10 years. The carmaker will focus on energy efficiency and recyclability of batteries, with an aim to reduce CO2 emissions and achieve carbon neutrality.

As part of its new strategy, Suzuki will work to minimize energy consumption through weight reduction. The carmaker aims to further evolve the Heartect platform, reducing the weight of the Alto by 15% over the next decade.

According to the company, if the vehicle weighs 200 kg less, it requires fewer materials, about 20% less energy for production, and 6% less energy for driving.

"In the future, we will extend the high-efficiency engine (Z12E) worldwide and achieve to minimise energy consumption by carbon-neutral fuel and next-generation hybrids," Suzuki said. The carmaker will also develop software-defined vehicles (SDVs) by sharing hardware to reduce component costs and reusing software to reduce development costs.

Suzuki says it will employ technology that minimizes energy consumption and will design products that can be easily recycled.
