Audi to kill off fake exhaust tips; Replace with real pipes

Audi's upcoming models like the Q5, A7 and Q7, will all be based on the PPC architecture.

Speaking to a media outlet, a spokesperson from Audi has confirmed that the German carmaker will kill off the habit of using fake exhaust tips on its models. Audi is instead committed to replacing them with actual functional tailpipes going forward.

The spokesperson promised that future cars on the new Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) architecture will utilise "hot tailpipes; functional tailpipes". The decision to replace fake exhaust tips with actual pipes is said to be thanks to "customer feedback" received by the brand. The first model with the functional tailpipes was the recently unveiled Audi A5.

Cars from Audi usually came with an exhaust tip tucked away underneath, while the tailpipe rims on the bumper were just moulded in for show without being connected in any way.

Audi's upcoming models like the Q5, A7 and Q7, will all be based on the PPC architecture - meaning all of them will get the hot tailpipe treatment. What is unsure is Audi's smaller models, based on its MQB platform. The carmaker is yet to confirm whether or not these models will follow suit.
