Mahindra Centuro to be launched on the 1st/2nd of July 2013

Mahindra Two Wheelers is all set to introduce its second motorcycle in the Indian market in the form of the Centuro 110. A commuter motorcycle that brings a host of features to the table, the Centuro is an upmarket variant of the Pantero 110. The motorcycle was showcased earlier this year, during the launch of the Pantero 110.

The national launch of the Centuro will happen on the 1st and 2nd of July 2013, at Jaipur. Team-BHP sources state that Mahindra Two Wheelers is benchmarking the Centuro against the Honda CB Twister 110. The Centuro 110 will be priced and positioned above the Pantero, as Mahindra's flagship motorcycle.

In the coming months, the flagship title is expected to change hands in the Mahindra Two Wheelers stable as the Mojo 300 sportsbike is being readied up for a launch in India. The Centuro shares its 106cc four stroke engine with the Pantero. This engine outputs 8.5 PS-8.6 Nm.

The motor is mated to a four speed manual gearbox as standard. Engine and transmission apart, the big differences on the Centuro, when compared to the Pantero lie in the way the motorcycle is styled and also in the number of features it comes with. Mahindra is introducing a slew of segment leading features on the Centuro, stuff that is hitherto found only in cars.

The motorcycle gets a distance-to-empty function on its digital instrumentation cluster. The headlamp gets a follow-me-home function while the turn indicators serve as guide lamps to enable the rider locate the motorcycle in parking lots. The motorcycle also gets an engine immobilizer (Anti-Theft feature in Mahindra speak).

As Mahindra is yet to make a mark on the highly competitive commuter motorcycle segment, the Centuro's class leading features might give the motorcycle enough ammunition to take on the well established competition. However, it remains to be seen whether the commuter motorcycle buyers in India, known to be a conservative lot, would be interested in shelling out extra money for the additional features on offer.
