Harley-Davidson to set up manufacturing facility in Thailand

Harley-Davidson has announced its plans to build a manufacturing facility in Thailand. This factory will be aimed at catering the rising demand in Southeast Asian countries. Presently, these markets are served through factories in US and India.

Harley hasn't revealed any specific investment figure regarding the said plant. However, the company has confirmed that the plant will be located in Thailand's Rayong province, which is located southeast of the capital city - Bangkok.

With this new manufacturing base, Harley-Davidson will be able to eliminate the need to pay up to 60% tax that is applicable on motorcycle imports in Thailand. Moreover, it will be eligible for tax benefits when exporting to other ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) markets from Thailand, thanks to a trade agreement between all ASEAN members.

The motorcycle manufacturer has claimed that US production will not be affected even after the commencement of manufacturing operations in Thailand.
