Claims to reduce the seat's carbon footprint by a massive 90%

BMW has unveiled its new M Visionary Materials Seat. The new seat is said to make use of unique materials and design, making it both lightweight and comfortable. The new M Vision Materials Seat even received the Enlighten Award at the 2024 Centre for Automotive Research Seminar, under the Sustainable Process category.

Keeping sustainability as among the key factors, BMW is said to have made use of multiple plant-based materials, natural fibres, leather alternatives and even algae-based polymers. The materials used are then robotically wound to make the seat's support structures. BMW also claims that the interior components of the seat are arranged in such a way that they can be further recycled more easily.

The materials used and seat structure, claims to reduce the seat's carbon footprint by a massive 90%, compared to standard BMW M bucket sports seats.

Roberto Rossetti, Head of Development Total Vehicle-Lifecycle, BMW Group, stated, "The data obtained provides new insights, both in terms of today’s negative contributing factors and the design of tomorrow’s processes. This experience provides a solid foundation for continuously improving sustainability and developing innovative solutions for forward-thinking mobility."
