China: BMW X3 Long Wheelbase SUV unveiled for the first time

The 5 Series LWB was also introduced in China, but it did make its way to the Indian market.

BMW has introduced the Long Wheelbase (LWB) version of its popular X3 SUV in China. This is the first time the BMW X3 is offered in the LWB form and is said to be available in two variants: 25L xDrive and 30L xDrive.

The BMW X3 LWB model will be manufactured in the Shenyang facility, operated by the BMW Brilliance Automotive JV. The LWB version of the SUV is said to be exclusive to the Chinese market for now. Although the LWB version of the 5 Series was also introduced in China, it did make its way to the Indian market.

The new BMW X3 LWB carries forward the same design and styling as the standard model available globally. The primary difference though, is the wheelbase, which has been increased by 110 mm. BMW has also extended the length and width, which now stands at 4,865 mm and 1,920 mm, respectively.

Inside as well, the X3 LWB is identical to the standard model. This includes BMW's curved display, which combines the 14.9-inch infotainment screen and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Other features include a flat-bottom steering wheel, an Interaction Bar on the dashboard and two-tone sports seats; among many others.

The BMW X3 LWB will use the same 2.0-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine, but will have different states of tune, depending on the variant chosen. The BMW X3 25L xDrive will also be offered with the M Sport Package, while the 30L xDrive gets a sportier look with multiple black highlights.

The BMW X3 is currently on sale in India in the standard wheelbase form. However, BMW did recently state that it could bring long-wheelbase versions of its SUVs to the Indian market. This does hint at a possible arrival of the X3 LWB to Indian shores.
