Truck racing made its Indian debut last year with the first edition of the Tata T1 Prima truck racing championship. The competition has returned this year for season II and will be held at the Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida - beginning Saturday, March 14. The main race will be held on Sunday, March 15.

The race will feature 12 purpose built Tata Prima race trucks, driven by experienced international truck racing drivers from the acclaimed British & European truck racing championships. This time around, the race trucks see their top speed go up by around 20% to 135 km/h. Tata says the trucks have been redesigned for improved aerodynamics and get a 10% reduction in weight. As a result, acceleration times improve by around 10% as well.

Season II will entail two free practice sessions and a qualifying race on March 14, followed by an 8 lap super qualifier and a 16 lap final head to head on race-day. The six teams competing this year are:

- Team Castrol Vecton
- Team Cummins
- Team Tata Technologies Motorsports
- Team Allied Partners
- Team Dealer Warriors
- Team Dealer Daredevils

The debut season of the championship was won by Team Castrol Vecton, followed by Team Cummins and Team Tata Technologies Motor Sports. Last year’s winners from these teams – Stuart Oliver, Mathew Summerfield and Dave Jenkins, will compete this year as well. Tata Motors has also introduced a new Indian drive selection and training program for 2016, to guide and induct Indian truck drivers into the competition's future.
