USA: Waymo does over 1 lakh robotaxi rides per week

Reports suggest the company has around 778 robotaxis under deployment.

According to reports, ride-sharing platform Waymo is now said to be giving over 100,000 (1 lakh) paid robotaxi rides every week.

The rides are spread across three main commercial markets, which include Los Angeles, San Francisco and Phoenix. The 100,000-per-week figure was further confirmed by Tekedra Mawakana, co-CEO of Waymo on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

The 1 lakh rides per week figure is double what Alphabet & Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai had noted during the company's earnings call this summer.

While Waymo doesn't specify its fleet number, reports do suggest the company has around 778 robotaxis under deployment. The robotaxis comes in the form of fully autonomous and electric Jaguar I-Pace vehicles.

Last year, Waymo received the final permits required to operate robotaxi service commercially. Since then, the services have moved to a 24 hours 7 days a week model across San Francisco and Los Angeles. The ride services are also expanding to other cities in the state of California.
