Volkswagen Golf GTI launched at Rs 53 lakh

In India, the Golf GTI has been positioned to compete with the Mini Cooper S.

Volkswagen has launched the Golf GTI in India. The hot hatchback will be imported via the CBU route and is priced at Rs 52,99,900 (ex-showroom).

The Golf GTI Mk 8.5 features subtle sporty upgrades on the outside. These include a front bumper with an aggressive design, large vents with a hexagonal mesh, LED fog lights and sleek Matrix LED headlights connected by a thin red strip.

In the rear, the Golf GTI gets wraparound taillights with C-shaped LEDs, dual exhaust tips, a roof spoiler, and a shark fin antenna. The car rides on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

Features & safety aids

Inside, the Golf GTI gets sports seats with GTI logos and a 3-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters. There’s a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre. The car also comes with a sunroof, 3-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, a wireless charger and ambient lighting.

Safety features include 7 airbags, a rear-view camera, TPMS, and Level 2 ADAS, which includes features like autonomous emergency braking, lane-change assist and rear traffic alert.

Engine & performance

Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that produces 261 BHP and 370 Nm. The engine is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, which allows the car to sprint from 0-100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.
