Rumour: Tata Bolt diesel to get AMT; launch in August

Tata Motors displayed the Zest compact sedan and Bolt hatchback at the 2014 Auto Expo. The company had then disclosed that while the Zest diesel would be getting an optional Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), the Bolt would come with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. However, a fresh report from NDTV Auto suggests that Tata Motors could have other ideas.

According to the report, Tata Motors is planning to equip the diesel-powered Bolt with an AMT right from the time of its launch. The car uses a 1.3-litre, Quadrajet engine that develops 74 bhp and 190 Nm. It will be available with a manual transmission as well.

The car will also be available with a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that produces 84 bhp and 140 Nm of torque. There is no news of an AMT being mated to this engine.

The report also claims that the Zest and Bolt will be launched in the month of August. Earlier this month, Tata Motors began the process of ramping up its dealerships for the launch of the two new products.
