Rumour: Skoda planning 7-seater SUV for India

Czech carmaker Skoda is rumoured to be considering a range of SUVs for India.

According to a report by Autocar India, the company is developing a seven-seater SUV. The vehicle is likely to be based on the Volkswagen CrossBlue, which is expected to be launched next year.

Skoda's seven-seater SUV will be underpinned by Volkswagen MQB platform and measure about 4.6 metres in length. It could sport bold and provocative styling to differentiate it from the mainstream. The interior of the SUV will be spacious and have three rows of seats. The SUV will also be equipped with an all-wheel drive system. The report claims that the vehicle will be positioned above the Superb sedan and cost between Rs. 25 lakh and Rs. 30 lakh. Skoda will pit the SUV against the Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Santa Fe.

However, before bringing the large SUV to India, Skoda plans to introduce the facelifted Yeti. The car could make it to our shores by the end of this calendar year.

Additionally the company is also said to be planning to bring a compact SUV based on the Volkswagen Taigun, which will help it tap into the fast-growing compact SUV segment.
