Ola to set up world's largest scooter plant in Tamil Nadu

The factory is being built with an investment of Rs. 2,400 crore. It will produce 20 lakh units per year.

Cab aggregator Ola has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government to set up a scooter factory in the state.

Ola will invest Rs. 2,400 crore in the new plant which is said to become the largest scooter factory in the world. The plant will have an annual capacity of 20 lakh units and is expected to create almost 10,000 jobs.

Ola plans to manufacture a range of 2-wheelers at the new facility. The first product to roll off the assembly line will be an electric scooter.

Earlier this year, Ola acquired Dutch electric scooter brand Etergo. The company's AppScooter comes with a unique removable banana battery that is easy to carry and can be charged anywhere. It has a claimed range of 241 km on a single charge.

Ola is gearing up to launch its first electric scooter in the Indian market in the coming months. The company plans to export its products to other countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
