NGT directs VW to not sell vehicles with cheat devices

The National Green Tribunal has instructed Volkswagen not to sell any diesel vehicle in India fitted with the "cheat device". It has also asked the German car manufacturer to submit an undertaking in this regard.

In November, the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) had investigated and found significant variations between the laboratory test figures and the actual on-road emission levels of Volkswagen cars. However, VW denied flouting any emission norm.

The company has been directed by the NGT to submit in writing that all the vehicles it will sell in India would comply with all the applicable emission norms.

The ARAI has been asked to submit its investigation report by February 4, pertaining to the said issue.
