Next-gen VW Jetta to debut at 2018 Detroit auto show

Volkswagen is set to debut the next-gen Jetta at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. According to a media report, Volkswagen North America CEO Hinrich Woebcken has confirmed that the new model will be revealed in January 2018.

The new Jetta will be based on the MQB platform. Recent spy images have indicated that the new model sports a completely redesigned exterior. The front-end styling has been clearly inspired by the VW Artreon sedan and boasts a large hexagonal grille finished in gloss black with twin-pod headlights on either side. The rear features neat wraparound LED tail lights, a new bumper and dual exhaust tips.

The next-gen Jetta is likely to get revised interiors with upgraded tech and features. Further, the overall wheelbase of the car is rumoured to be longer than the previous generation model.

The current Jetta is offered with a choice of a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. While Volkswagen is yet to announce the engine options for the next-gen Jetta, recent media reports suggest that the Jetta could be offered with a 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines in addition to the 2.0-litre diesel in the international market.
