Replacing my VW Jetta TDI's water pump and timing belt at 40,000 km

I am completely satisfied with the job done and the technician who worked on my car was very skilled and knew what he was doing.

Hi, fellow BHPians!

Recently I got the timing belt and water pump of my 2015 Jetta TDI changed at PPS Volkswagen, Kolkata. Though the car has run some 40k odd kms, I did not want to postpone the job considering the age of my Jetta. I never considered an FNG for this job (not that I have many) and went for the ASS. Though I had made a prior appointment, surprisingly they had all the parts in stock. I am completely satisfied with the job done and the technician who worked on my car was very skilled and knew what he was doing.

My request to occasionally visit my car at the service bay was honoured and I am thankful to my SA Mr. Samiran Das and the service manager at the SS, Mr. Tushar Chatterjee who was kind enough to deliver the car on the same day as the Service Station is almost 100 kms from my home. While I was there, I also got my coolant replaced which took 7 litres of VW G12 Evo coolant. I also got the coolant reservoir replaced as it was badly discolored.

The technician advised the replacement of the front disc brake pads which were not readily available. They procured OEM pads from another of their VW workshop within an hour. The car is now running on new pads.

I have driven the car for almost 600 kms post the timing kit+water pump replacement and it is running fine.

I also got the V belt replaced which was last changed 4 years ago.

The total bill came upto Rs. 41k including labour charges (around Rs.8k). I believe the front brake pads (OEM) are slightly overpriced at Rs. 6.5k. They also replaced a bunch of bolts worth Rs.3k. I am not sure changing all of these was necessary but I did not want to compromise with safety and warranty of the replaced parts. I am planning a periodic maintenance service very soon.

PS: I replaced both the headlamps shortly after getting the car. One was replaced because it was badly scratched and the other was replaced as there was a small accident while my dad was driving and the RHS headlamp broke. I'll save the story of my experience of changing them for another post.
