The next-gen Jeep Cherokee is all set to launch next year, and the new SUV will come with petrol and electric powertrains.
The new Cherokee will be built on Stellantis’ new STLA large platform. It is expected to get the 3.0-litre ‘Hurricane’ straight six from the petrol-powered Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, which offer outputs of 420 BHP and 510 BHP, respectively.
The electric version of the Cherokee is expected to launch after the petrol model. It is likely to come with the 600 BHP dual-motor, four-wheel-drive powertrain that is seen in the Wagoneer S. It is paired with a 118 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery pack, giving a range of 303 miles (488 km) on a single charge, according to the US’s EPA test.
Design-wise, the new Cherokee is expected to feature a prominent seven-slot grille similar to that on the new Compass. The rear will also be Compass-inspired, but could skip the light bar.
On the interior, the new Cherokee gets a large infotainment touchscreen similar to the 12.3-in unit featured in the Wagoneer S, with rotary control dials on its sides. The climate functions are controlled using a touchbar integrated into the dashboard below the main screen.
The new Cherokee will sit between the new Compass and the Wagoneer S in Jeep’s SUV lineup.
