Mercedes C-Class W205 revealed

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the new C-Class sedan, prior to its debut at the Detroit Motor Show. The new C, model code W205, has a hint of the new S-Class in its styling. With a length of 4686 mm and a width of 1810 mm, the new car is 95 mm longer and 40 mm wider than the W204, which it will replace. The new car has a wheelbase of 2840 mm, which is a gain of 80 mm. However, the W205 uses more aluminium in its construction, which helps it to be 100 kg lighter than the outgoing car.

At launch, Mercedes will offer the C-Class will be offered with three engine options – one diesel and two petrol power plants. The range starts with the C180, which gets a 1.6-litre petrol unit, producing 156 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The C200 will be powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine, developing 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque. The C220 BlueTEC gets a 2143 cc diesel unit, good for 170 hp and 400 Nm. Mercedes is offering a 6-speed manual and a 7G-Tronic PLUS Automatic as gearbox options.

Soon after the launch, Mercedes will expand its engine options. There will be a 1.6-litre diesel, larger and more powerful versions of both petrol and diesel power plants and even a hybrid on offer. A 9-speed automatic transmission is also expected in the future.

We expect Mercedes to bring the W205 C-Class to Auto Expo 2014.
