Maruti Suzuki hikes prices of all cars by up to Rs. 20,000

Maruti Suzuki has announced a price hike across all models in its portfolio. The company has cited forex movement and strategic product decisions as the reason behind this price hike. The increased prices have been made applicable across the country with immediate effect.

While most of the models have suffered an increment in the range of Rs. 1500-5000, the company's best-selling cars have received the highest hike. Prices of the Maruti Vitara Brezza have gone up by Rs. 20,000, while the Baleno premium hatchback has received a price rise of Rs. 10,000.

The manufacturer claims that the Vitara Brezza compact SUV was still retailing at its introductory prices, since its launch in March 2016. As a result, the larger price rise for the Brezza was imminent. On the other hand, the Baleno's hike is most probably Maruti's strategy to develop enough price gap for the next-gen Swift, which is expected to be launched next year.

This price hike is the second such increase by Maruti Suzuki this year. The company had earlier increased prices of all its models in January 2016. Maruti had stated rising input costs as the reason of the price hike.
