Maruti Suzuki Gypsy discontinued

Thanks to BHPian Leoshashi for sharing this information with other enthusiasts.

The production of the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy has ended. The car will no longer be sold in India. The carmaker had reportedly stopped accepting bookings from December 2018.

The Gypsy was introduced in the India market in December 1985 with a 1.0-litre, 4-cylinder petrol engine. Over the course of its lifetime, the car had received a couple of updates. In 1993, Maruti introduced the MG410W that featured wider front and rear tracks. In 1996, the car received the 1.3-litre, all-aluminium petrol unit from the Esteem.

In recent years, the Gypsy's sales figures were not significant and the car was unlikely to be updated to comply with upcoming emission norms and safety regulations. Therefore, Maruti was left with no choice but to discontinue the model.
