Maruti Escudo 5-seater SUV to slot between Brezza & Grand Vitara

The Maruti Escudo is expected to rival the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Maruti Suzuki has been working on a new midsize SUV codenamed Y17. It was thought to be a 7-seater version of the Grand Vitara. However, the latest reports suggest that it will be a 5-seater model positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara.

According to media reports, the Y17 began life as a 3-row SUV. However, a detailed study of the market showed limited scope for such a model, which is why Maruti decided to introduce it as a 5-seater SUV instead.

Reports also suggest that the new midsize 5-seater SUV from Maruti Suzuki is likely to be called 'Escudo'. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The Maruti Suzuki Escudo is said to be based on the Global-C platform. It will be longer and offer a bigger boot space than the Grand Vitara. It is expected to be powered by the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre petrol hybrid, and CNG powertrains. It might also be offered with AWD.

Reports suggest that the new Maruti Escudo (Y17) will be available at Arena showrooms.
