Made-in-India Hyundai i20 scores 3 stars in Global-NCAP tests

The made-in-India Hyundai i20 that is sold in the South African market has received a 3-star rating for adult occupant safety and a 2-star rating for child safety in Global-NCAP crash tests.

According to the test report, the Hyundai i20 offered good protection to the head and marginal protection to the driver's chest region. Protection to the driver's upper leg area was found to be marginal. The car offered adequate protection to the front passenger's chest and legs. A rear-facing child seat offered good protection to the head and chest area of an 18-month old occupant. In case of a 3-year old strapped into a front facing child seat, excessive forward movement was observed, exposing the head to risks.

The test vehicle was equipped with front seat belt pretensioners, driver and passenger airbags and ABS. The bodyshell of the vehicle was rated as unstable and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings. The footwell was also found to be unstable.
