Hyundai Mobis develops panoramic sunroof airbag

Hyundai Mobis - the parts and services division of Hyundai, Kia and Genesis, has developed a sunroof airbag with the aim of protecting the occupants of a car in the event of a rollover. This airbag is claimed to be able to deploy in 0.08 seconds.

The airbag has been developed for use in vehicles with panoramic sunroofs. It is integrated into the sunroof itself and is triggered by the car's yaw sensor. It unfurls from the rear to the front of the vehicle and covers most of the roof. Hyundai Mobis claims that airbag can also detect if the roof is open or not and is capable of changing the way in which it deploys. The airbag is claimed to prevent occupants from being ejected through the roof in the case of an accident. It is also claimed to prevent injures such as concussions.

According to Hyundai Mobis, the panoramic sunroof airbag has been put through tests for vibrations and heat resistance. The company claims to have mass production technology for this airbag. According to a media report, the first vehicle to use this technology could be an upcoming SUV that will be sold under the Genesis brand.
