Here's why the Jimny AT will be my next 2nd car in the garage

I have been driving SUVs, across all price ranges, but the way the Jimny takes bad roads has to be experienced.

BHPian Sheel recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Thanks to my friend and BHPian SumitB, recently, I had the opportunity to drive a Jimny Alpha MT from Shillong - Cherrapunji - Dawki - Shillong and multiple times on the Shillong - Guwahati highway.

First thing first, I am bowled over by the suspension, I have been driving SUVs and lots of them, across all price ranges, but the way it takes bad roads has to be experienced. Very mature, very compliant, ride is absorbing and handling for an SUV is good. This Jimny was shod with 215's Cross Contact AT's so my experience was with it.

On a trail which leads to his farm, you can still manage it in 2H, thanks to the Continental tyres, but if it rains (which it does and lots of it), you need 4H.

The Jimny also has intermittent settings for wipers which I liked and has an interval (2-speed wipe settings for the rear) which I absolutely loved. On the Guwahati - Shillong highway, with rains completely lashing, it would have been a chore to keep the rear wipe continuously on, this 2-speed wipe function helped immensely.

From what I observed, Jimny is built well, just like a Jap vehicle should, this vehicle sees bad roads every day and there were no rattles/squeaks anywhere. The infotainment showed me ~11+ km/l fuel average, I think, considering Shillong's traffic, too much fog/mist on the road to Cherrapunji / Dawki, plus lack of outright power which made me gun the engine was the probable culprit and yes, the turning radius is large for the size.

If and when I change my second car or add a third one, this should be it.
