First official images of the 2015 Audi Q7 surface

The first official images of the 2015 Audi Q7 SUV have emerged on the web ahead of its official reveal. Audi has dropped the bulk from the SUV's design and the 2015 Q7 will sport sharper lines. The overall design is still very familiar, but it now features a more aggressive stance, especially with the chiseled nose and shoulder line.

The front grill features 7 horizontally placed slats, while the headlamps now connect to the grill's outer lining. Audi is likely to offer the new Matrix LED headlamps as well. The side profile features beefed up wheel arches and silver cladding between the doors. At the back, the new Q7 features redesigned LED tail lamps, reflectors in the rear bumper to cut the bulk and dual tail pipes. The bulk loss isn’t on the surface alone. The new Q7 which rides on the MLB Evo platform, is lighter by 325 kgs.

Engines options are expected to be carried over from the outgoing model, with tweaks to increase efficiency and reduce emissions. The SUV is expected to get an 8-speed automatic transmission. Sources say Audi has plans to introduce an e-tron variant that will use a 3.0-litre diesel V6 engine supplemented by an electric motor.

The major differences however, are seen on the inside. Audi has used a tablet type multi-media interface that pops out from the top of the dashboard, freeing up space at the centre console. The controller knob for the infotainment system has been placed ahead of the new flat top gear selector. Two cup-holders have been placed on the front passenger's side, while the climate control system sports sleeker appearance. The steering wheel appears smaller and features a metallic finish at the bottom.

The 2015 Audi Q7 is expected to make its public debut at the 2015 Detroit motor show.
