1 year of owning the Tucson; Wholeheartedly recommend buying the SUV

I chose the Tuscon over cars like the Kodiaq, Hycross, Ioniq 5 and the Meridian.

BHPian cityhustler recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hello BHPians,

I have been an avid consumer of teambhp content for a few years now and wanted to contribute back in a small way.

We are celebrating a year of owning Tucson HTRAC. At 67K+ ODO, I can vouch for this premium crossover as the best one can get at its price point.

Requirements

  • A reliable mile muncher to be driven primarily on highways on a daily basis
  • An SUV, automatic with good ride quality
  • A segment above the Kushaq/Taigun/Vitara/Creta/Seltos (I have a 6-year Gen4 Honda City in the garage as well)

Cars Considered

  1. Skoda Kodiaq - had everything going for it, fell head over heals - dropped for 2 reasons: petrol only, a fuel guzzler for my requirement
  2. Toyota Hycross ZXO - Toyota & Dealer messed up my booking, no value for being the initial customer in the queue and random allotments by dealers
  3. Jeep Meridian - Liked the looks and the package, but dropped because of doubts cast about Jeep's continuity, no service options in my town
  4. Hyundai Ioniq 5 - The car I wanted to buy, definitely ahead of its times - couldn't muster enough courage to bite the EV bullet and did not have enough confidence on my driver to take care of this modern car
  5. Hyundai Tucson - visited Hyundai to check Ioniq and while we waited for the test drive, check this out

The purchase decision was head over heart one, with the nod from family post the Tucson test drive, we added our "Starry Night" to the garage in July'23.

Pros

  1. Gem of a package - Engine, Transmission, Handling, Ride Quality, all the creature comforts
  2. Being a CKD, it is well put together - materials used are top-notch, with excellent NVH levels
  3. It is a looker. The design is bold and unlike anything in the market now, it grows on you over a period of time
  4. Excellent highway mileage - cruise at 90-95kmph and you end up with 19kmpl. City mileage varies between 12-14 km/l.
  5. A family car - has something for everybody, can gobble up all the luggage wife wants to carry
  6. Stealth mode by default - Unless you are an auto enthusiast this car is mistaken for another Creta on the road

Minor Irritants

  1. Sound System - the BOSE speakers do not do justice for an audiophile in this segment. You can live with it with the right settings though
  2. No Type C USB connector by default in 2023
  3. ADAS settings to be sorted every time you start the engine, waiting for the Firmware update which retains this setting
  4. As this is LWB, having an option of 2 additional kid-friendly seats would've gotten more brownie points
  5. Headlight throw during rains is insufficient, I guess this is the norm with most of the new cars

I have faced zero niggles/rattles so far (touch wood) and would wholeheartedly recommend this car to anybody who is willing to see past the badge quotient.
