Wipro, SBI to switch to EVs by 2030

Wipro and the State Bank of India (SBI) have joined EV100 - a global electric vehicles (EV) initiative launched by an international non-profit organization called 'The Climate Group'. Further, Wipro and SBI have announced that the companies would transition to electric vehicles by 2030.

Wipro will start rolling out around 2,000 EVs at its facilities in New Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune. The company currently operates 50 EVs at its Hyderabad and New Delhi offices. EVs will be introduced at its international offices at a later phase. Meanwhile, SBI hasn't disclosed its road map to introduce EVs in its global fleet. That said, India's largest public sector bank will be setting up charging stations in major residential areas to promote EVs among its staff.

The Climate Group's EV100 initiative was launched in New York in September 2017. It aims to bring together multinational companies to lead the transition to EVs. Bulk orders from large organizations would help increase the demand and thus bring down the cost of production as well, eventually making EVs affordable for everyone.
