VW Motorsport to sell racecars to private customers

According to a media report, Volkswagen Motorsport plans to start selling its racecars to private customers. Buyers will get to choose from the Ameo Cup racecar and the full race-spec Vento that features in the Indian Touring Car Championship. While the race-spec Ameo reportedly costs Rs. 40 lakh, the prices for the race-spec Vento range from Rs. 25-40 lakh.

The Ameo Cup racecar is powered by a race-built 1.8-litre engine, which makes 205 BHP and is paired with a sequential gearbox that has a full auto mode. It comes with a BMC intake, Motec engine management system with a full digital instrument cluster, full FMSCI-spec roll cage, seam welded body structure, OMP racing seat, fire extinguisher, Team Dynamic wheels shod with MRF ZLO racing slicks and a rear spoiler. The car is capable of lapping the Buddh International Circuit in under 2 min 20 seconds.

The Vento racecar is also powered by a 1.8-litre engine. It makes 250 BHP but the restrictor plates drop the overall output to 210 BHP. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a sequential gearbox with a manual shifter. The car rides on KW suspension with Eibach coilovers and forged wheels that weigh 6.5 kg a piece. Front brakes are from a Golf R32, while the rear discs come from an Octavia RS. On the inside, you get a racing seat and harness as well as a roll cage and fire extinguisher. Customers are offered additional aerodynamic bits like a front splitter, canards and rear wing as an option. VW can also boost the engine to produce more than 300 BHP.
