Ferrari inaugurates 'e-building' for ICE cars, hybrids and first EV

Vigna confirmed that the "e" in "e-building" doesn't stand for electric.

Ferrari has opened a new 'e-building' production facility to manufacture its upcoming electric cars. The new e-building is a 42,500-square-metre facility built at a cost of 200 million euros and is located inside the Ferrari complex at Maranello, Italy.

Speaking about the new facility, Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari, stated that the new building will help shorten the development times of new products and dedicate resources to its practice of personalisation for Ferrari customers. Vigna also refused speculations of its upcoming Ferrari EV being priced at 500,000 euros or that the aim of the new factory was to increase production capacity. The CEO stated, "The point of this building… is not capacity driven." He further added, "We do not confirm the 20,000 [annual production], we do not confirm the price."

Vigna went on to explain, "We did not design [the new factory] with the desire to grow our volumes. Our ethos will remain the same: quality of revenues over quantity.

Speaking about the building, Vigna confirmed that the "e" in "e-building" doesn't stand for electric. Rather it implies three things: Energy, Evolution and Environment. The CEO explained, "Energy because it will allow us to implement our multi-energy product strategy with three powertrains. Evolution since it provides us with much greater flexibility in manufacturing and technological capability. Environment because the e-building represents a key milestone in our journey to carbon neutrality."

Vigna mentioned that the company has installed more than 9000 solar panels. These solar panels, according to the CEO, will replace Ferrari's tri-generators which will be shut down in early 2025. "By the beginning of 2025, we will shut down our tri-generator, and we will not burn any more gas to produce our electricity, heating and cooling," Vigna stated.

As far as Ferrari's first electric car is concerned, the company has confirmed that its production will start in early 2026.
