USA: Ford recalls 550,000 pickups due to gearbox issue

The company also stated that it expects fewer than 1% of the recalled vehicles to have a problem.

According to media reports, Ford has recalled a massive 5,50,000 pickup trucks in the USA.

As per reports, vehicles involved in the recall have transmission issues, which can downshift to first gear at any time, irrespective of how fast the trucks are going. This results in drivers losing control and increasing the risk of a crash. Certain 2014 model-year F-150 pickups have been recalled after an investigation was initiated following multiple complaints to the US auto safety regulators.

As per the documents, the loss of signal between the transmission speed sensor and the powertrain control computer is the cause of the issue. Another reason could be the corrosion of connector pins. Dealers are expected to update the powertrain control at no cost to the owners, starting in early July.

Ford also stated that they know of 130 complaints to the government, of which 52 allege that the rear wheels locked up, causing the drivers to lose control. Also, two of the complaints reported injuries, and one even resulted in a crash. The company also stated that it expects fewer than 1% of the recalled vehicles to have a problem.
