Volkswagen Vento facelift spied

Volkswagen has started testing a facelifted version of the Vento sedan in India. A test mule of the car has been spotted filling up at a fuel station.

The image indicates that refreshed Vento is expected to get styling changes on the lines of the facelifted Polo hatchback, which was launched in July this year. The front of the car is likely to get a new grille, redesigned headlamps, a restyled front bumper with a larger airdam and fog lamps. The rear of the car might also be tweaked with a pair of revised tail lamps, a new bumper. A new set of alloy wheels could also be offered.

On the inside too, the Vento is likely to get the same treatment as the Polo facelift. The expected changes include a new multi-function steering wheel with piano black detailing, a centre console with matte silver inserts and new fabric for the seats.

On the mechanical front, the Vento is expected to feature the Polo's new 1.5-litre TDi diesel engine. While the engine is available in two states of tune in the Polo, Volkswagen is likely to use only the more powerful version (104 bhp, 250 Nm) in the sedan. However, unlike the Polo which only gets a 5-speed manual gearbox, the Vento is likely to be offered with a 6-speed DSG automatic as well.

The Volkswagen Vento's sales have been overshadowed by the Honda City and Hyundai Verna. With the Maruti Suzuki gearing up to launch the Ciaz sedan next month, the competition is set to get fiercer. Volkswagen will be hoping that the changes to the Vento will keep it relevant in the C2 segment.
