Tork T6X - India's first electric motorcycle to launch soon

Tork Motorcycles, a Pune-based start-up that deals in electric mobility, is planning to launch its first full production electric motorcycle in India in the next couple of months. Named the Tork T6X, this new motorcycle will be India's first all-electric motorcycle.

The company claims that apart from the lithium-ion batteries, no other component of the T6X has been imported from outside India. There aren't any technology tie-ups with international firms either. Hence, the Tork T6X is an indigenously developed electric motorcycle in India.

Tork has also set up a manufacturing plant in Chakan, near Pune. This plant, according to the company, is capable of producing around 50,000 units per year. However, the firm expects to sell around 10,000 units in the first year after the T6X's launch.

The Tork T6X is claimed to deliver a range of 100 km in a single charge. It will have a top speed of 85 km/h.

Tork was established in 2009 by Kapil Shelke, a mechanical engineer from Pune University. The firm is partly owned by Kapil Shelke and his father, and is also funded by Ankit Bhati and Bhavesh Agarwal, co-founders of Ola Cabs. Till date, Tork Motorcycles has made five prototypes of its electric motorcycle project.
