Next year, Skoda plans to enter the hotly contested compact SUV space with a new sub-4 meter SUV. While there is still some time for the official unveiling, Skoda will announce its name on August 21.

Skoda had shortlisted 10 names for its upcoming compact SUV: Kwiq, Kymaq, Kylaq, Kariq, Kyroq, Kosmiq, Kayaq, Kaiq, Kliq, Karmiq. The carmaker had also announced a contest, where people could send their suggestions.

The Skoda compact SUV will be based on the MQB A0-IN platform, which is shared with the Kushaq and Slavia. Teaser images suggest the car will get a signature Skoda grille with LED DRLs on either side at the front and L-shaped LED taillights with the ‘Skoda’ lettering in the centre.

The crossover will be powered by a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. In its current spec, this engine produces 113 BHP and 178 Nm and is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
