Rumour: Toyota working on new diesel-hybrid powertrain

The brand could update its commercial vehicle models such as vans and light trucks with a hybrid-only powertrain as well.

Toyota is rumoured to be developing a diesel-hybrid powertrain. According to a media report, the Japanese car brand aims to use the diesel-hybrid powertrain on off-road 4WD models and commercial vehicles.

Toyota is said to be working on updating its entire passenger vehicle lineup with a hybrid powertrain, moving away from pure IC-engines in the process. Toyota will update its passenger vehicles with its petrol-electric and the rumoured diesel-electric hybrid powertrain options.

Similarly, reports suggest that the Japanese brand could update its commercial vehicle models such as vans and light trucks with a hybrid-only powertrain as well.

While details are scarce, reports suggest that models such as the Land Cruiser, Land Cruiser Prado, Hiace Wagon & Granace could incorporate the hybrid options in the future.
