VW owners can soon play games on their car's infotainment screens

AirConsole will offer up to 137 games, with a few of them, specifically developed for the platform.

According to reports, Volkswagen has announced a partnership with AirConsole - a video gaming platform. The partnership will allow owners of specific models to play video games on their car's infotainment screen, from as early as next month.

Volkswagen will initially introduce the new in-gaming feature on models like the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.7 electric vehicles. Along with these, the tech will also be offered on the latest versions of the Golf, Passat & Tiguan models. Also, the feature will initially be available only in a handful of European countries.

Speaking about the feature itself, the gaming platform allows occupants to play games on the vehicle's infotainment screen. It supports a multi-player format and uses a connected smartphone as a controller. However, it will work only when the vehicle is stationary, which could help keep EV owners entertained while their vehicle charges up. AirConsole will offer up to 137 games, with a few of them, specifically developed for the platform.

Reports state that while the games themselves are free to play, owners can pay a subscription for benefits like allowing more players to connect, skip ad breaks, and more.
