Rumour: Tesla mulls 2015 entry into India

American electric automobile manufacturer, Tesla Motors could make an entry into the Indian market in the near future.

Media reports say that the Palo Alto, California-based company is planning to move beyond the United States and Europe and looking to do high-volume business in Asian markets, especially India. While there is no official statement from Tesla, the company could make its way to our shores as early as 2015.

At present, Tesla produces the Model S sedan, a car that recently made headlines for receiving the best US-NCAP crash test ratings ever. The car comes in three powertrain configurations with varying power outputs and ranges. Tesla will soon introduce the Model X, an electric SUV.

The company is also aiming to build the Model E, a car 20% smaller than the Model S, which is expected to have a range of 320 km and cost in the region of US $35,000. The Model E is likely to be debuted at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show.
