Rumour: Tata working on Nexon Petrol Hybrid

Thanks to BHPian RavenAvi sharing this information with other enthusiasts.

Tata Motors may not give the Nexon the JTP treatment just yet. Instead the carmaker is rumoured to be working on the Nexon Hybrid.

The Nexon Hybrid is expected to feature a petrol engine paired with a mild hybrid system. While there has been no word on the specifications of the engine, it is expected to be a BS-VI compliant unit. Currently Tata offers a 1.2-litre, turbocharged 3-cylinder petrol unit on the compact SUV, which produces 108 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 170 Nm @ 1,750-4,000 rpm.

Reports suggest that Tata has already shortlisted and placed orders for 10,000 electric junction boxes for the hybrid system. This means, the carmaker could be targeting around 830 units of the Hybrid variant per month.

Tata Motors is also rumoured to be tweaking the 1.5-litre, turbocharged 4-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine to make it BS-VI compliant.
