Rumour: Mahindra BE.05 tech specs & expected launch timeline

The BE.05 could be offered with two battery options: 79 kWh and 82 kWh, with a range of around 586 km.

Mahindra has been working on its ‘Born Electric’ range of SUVs for some time now. The carmaker plans to launch five new electric SUVs by 2026, and the BE.05 will be among the first ones to go on sale in India.

Latest rumours suggest that the Mahindra BE.05 is likely to be unveiled in November, with deliveries planned for early 2025. Prices will be announced sometime between the unveiling and the commencement of deliveries.

We’ve been told that Mahindra is benchmarking the BE.05 with models like the Ioniq 5, Volkswagen ID.5, and even premium offerings like the Mercedes EQS, Tesla Model Y, and Volvo C40. It gives us a hint of what we can expect, in terms of performance.

The BE.05 will be based on Mahindra’s INGLO platform, which uses components from Volkswagen’s MEB architecture. Mahindra is said to be developing three powertrain options for the BE.05, including two RWD and one AWD variant. It could be offered with two battery options: 79 kWh and 82 kWh, with a range of around 586 km. The carmaker is also developing LFP batteries for its future EVs.

In terms of performance, the base RWD version of the BE.05 is said to be capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, while the performance version completes the dash to 100 km/h in just 6 seconds. The AWD version is a lot quicker thanks to better traction. It is said to reach 100 km/h in 5 seconds.

We have also learnt that the BE.05 is likely to come with fabric interiors. Compared to other Born Electric models, it could also miss out on some features, such as the head-up display. The SUV is said to ride on 20-inch wheels, shod with 245/50 R20 tyres.
