Rumour: Hyundai Tucson India launch on October 24

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson will reportedly be launched in India on October 24, 2016. It was earlier showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Tucson will be placed between the Creta and Santa Fe in Hyundai's SUV portfolio.

This isn't the first time that the Tucson moniker is being launched in India. Hyundai had launched its first generation model in 2005; however, the second-gen car never made it to India. Since the Crossover and SUV segments have been showcasing huge potential from the last couple of years, Hyundai has decided to bring back the Tucson to India, this time in its third-gen avatar.

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson will be brought in via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down unit) route, and Hyundai claims to have achieved 50% localization in order to offer it at a competitive price tag. It will feature the automaker's Fluidic 2.0 design philosophy.

Official specs of the India-spec model haven't been revealed yet. The Tucson diesel will probably be powered by a 2.0-litre CRDi engine, offered in two states of tune: 134 BHP and 181 BHP. Meanwhile, the petrol engine might be borrowed from the Elantra - a 2.0-litre MPI unit that produces 150 BHP and 195 Nm of torque. Transmission options on offer will include a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic.
