Rumour: GM to reveal compact SUV concept at Auto Expo

The compact SUV market in India is growing at a fast pace with Ford leading the way and other major players like Toyota, VW and Maruti Suzuki gearing up to jump in the fray in the near future. Now it appears that General Motors wants to get a piece of the action as well.

If a report on Autocar India is to be believed, the American auto giant intends to unveil a Chevrolet-badged, compact SUV concept, based on Gamma 2, its global small car platform, at the Auto Expo in February 2014. The car is likely to be powered by the same 1.3-litre, 77 bhp, diesel engine and 5-speed manual gearbox, which are found in the Sail and Enjoy. GM can be expected to keep the length of the SUV under 4 metres to benefit from the lower excise duty in India.

Other cars to be displayed at the Chevrolet pavilion will include a facelifted Beat, the Corvette C7 Stingray, Camaro and Trailblazer.
