Rumour: Genesis' first models for India could be SUVs

According to a media report, Genesis could kick off its India campaign by introducing SUVs. It is believed that SUVs would justify the premium positioning and price tag of Genesis models.

Genesis' present model line up does not include SUVs. However, the brand's portfolio is expected to include two new SUVs in the near future. These include the GV70 and GV80. The GV70 is likely to be based on the next-generation Hyundai Tucson and is likely to come with right-hand drive, while the latter could share its underpinnings with the Hyundai Palisade / Kia Telluride.

The report also says that the Genesis SUV might be assembled in India from completely knocked down (CKD) kits.

There has been no official word confirming the models that will be offered in India. However, according to reports, the GV70 SUV seems to be the more likely candidate.

Earlier this year, there were reports indicating that Hyundai might launch the Genesis brand in India after 2020. The cars are likely to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.
