Rumour: Ford Figo production stopped; new model coming soon

The Ford Figo hatchback is one of the models from the American company's line-up of cars in India that has sold in decent numbers. However, over the past couple of months, its sales have fallen considerably. In December, the company despatched only 151 units of the car. Since the company has never despatched such a low number of Figos before, it is being speculated that the production of the car has been stopped.

Ford has been testing the next-generation Figo hatchback in India for a while now. The car is expected to be launched in the coming months. So if the company has indeed discontinued production of the old Figo, it will come as no surprise.

The new Figo will be built at Ford's new facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The car uses Ford's new design language with an Aston Martin-like, hexagonal front grille. There will also be a compact sedan based on its platform, which will replace the ageing Ford Classic sedan.

The Figo hatchback is likely to draw power from 4-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel units. A 3-cylinder 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine without the turbocharger could also be used.
