Range Rover Evoque cabriolet to enter production

Range Rover debuted the Evoque cabriolet back in 2012 at the Geneva motor show. Though there haven't been many developments since the reveal, multiple spy shots have emerged recently. This suggests that Range Rover is gearing up to launch the chop-top Evoque, in a bid to reach out to a different niche.

Though the model which was first showcased looked production ready, it had a clip on fabric roof. The test mules seen so far have got electrically folding soft-tops. The model will be based on the Evoque 3-door coupe, with the public debut possibly taking place at the 2015 Goodwood festival of speed. Though the change is primarily in the body style, some reports say that the 2.2-litre diesel engine may be replaced by JLR's 2.0-ingenium diesel motor series that debuted with the all new Jaguar XE sedan.

The Evoque garnered praise with its design and styling. The Evoque cabrio on the other hand, could prove to be an acquired taste. How JLR's attempt to make the "world's first premium convertible SUV" works out, only time will tell.
