Nissan GT-R going electric; Likely to debut solid-state batteries

Nissan also plans to introduce solid-state batteries in a wide range of vehicles.

In October last year, Nissan showcased the Hyper Force EV concept, giving us a first glimpse of what the GT-R's electric successor could look like. Now, as per fresh reports, the upcoming Nissan GT-R electric is likely to be the brand's first model to feature solid-state batteries.

Nissan claims that the use of solid-state batteries on the GT-R electric could make it a "game-changing hyper EV" with over 1,300 BHP of power output.

Ivan Espinosa, Global VP of Product Planning at Nissan, stated that solid-state batteries can "be easily applied to things like sports cars". This is because the new battery tech can pack the same amount of energy in half the space, making it perfect for the upcoming electric GT-R.

Espinosa said, "Because it has greater density, you need less material per battery in order to deliver the same amount of power, so the overall cost should be competitive."

Following the launch of the electric GT-R, Nissan plans to introduce solid-state batteries in a wide range of vehicles.
