Next-gen BMW 7-Series spied in India

Earlier this year, BMW revealed the sixth-generation 7-Series sedan (click here to read report). Now, a test mule of the car has been spotted in India.

The 7-Series, codenamed G11 (G12 for the extended wheelbase), is constructed using carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CRPF) along with steel and aluminium. The car weighs 130 kg lesser than the outgoing model. The extended wheelbase version, which is expected to be sold in India, measures 5,238 mm in length, 1,902 mm in width, 1,485 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,210 mm.

The new 7-Series will be available with a range of petrol, diesel and hybrid power plants In international markets. In India, it is expected to come with a choice of just two engines:

  • 4.4-litre, 8-cylinder petrol, 443 BHP, 650 Nm, 8-speed automatic transmission
  • 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder diesel, 261 BHP, 620 Nm, 8-speed automatic transmission

The BMW 7-Series is expected to be showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which is scheduled to begin next week. It will compete against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ.
