More news on the India-specific next-gen Beat

The Chevrolet Beat has been around in the market since 2009. Apart from the addition of a diesel engine, not much has changed in the car, neither cosmetically nor mechanically. We already know that the next-generation of the Beat is coming to India in 2017. Now a media report reveals more information about that car.

The new Beat is going to be based on the same M300 platform as the current Beat. The all new M2 platform on which the recently unveiled Spark is built isn't turning out to be feasible for the Indian market. The report suggests that the new Beat will share parts with the new Spark and there is a possibility of a 7" touchscreen system to find its way in the Indian Beat too.

Unlike the current 1.2 litre, the new Beat might be launched with a 1 litre, 3-cylinder petrol motor in India. This motor is based on the 1.4 litre, Ecotec unit from the new Spark. A 1 litre SDE diesel motor will also power the Beat.

GM is trying to increase levels of localization and keep the costs competitive. Earlier, we had also reported that India is likely to be the company's new global manufacturing and export hub and is likely to export nearly 30% of its annual production over the next few years. The company is also targeting a market share of 5% in India within the next decade.
