Maruti testing CNG-powered Super Carry (Y9T)

Maruti Suzuki is expected to launch the Super Carry (codenamed Y9T) small commercial vehicle in India this year. With the introduction of the vehicle, the company will mark its entry into the commercial segment in the country.

The Super Carry, which is expected to rival the Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo Plus, is expected to be powered by an 800cc, twin-cylinder diesel engine. This is the same engine that has been used in the recently-launched Celerio diesel hatchback.

Additionally, it looks like Maruti could be planning to launch a CNG variant of the Super Carry as well. A test mule of the vehicle with CNG stickers has been spotted testing. The CNG engine is rumoured to be the 1.2-litre unit found on the Eeco. It is expected to produce about 35-40 BHP.

The Super Carry is expected to have a capacity to haul 1.0 tonne of payload. It is expected to share parts with other budget offerings from Maruti, which should help to keep the cost of production in check.
